Key to 'Boy-Friendly' Romances = Boys...Duh!

So this chick named "Jessica Barnes" wrote something entitled "Quick List: Romance for Boys" on some web site called "Cinematical".* (How tiring.) So this chick, Jessica, has "been told" that she is not the "average girl" when it comes to her movie tastes. How cool of her. So now she created a list of romantic movies for men -- movies that are apparently "boy-friendly" romances -- movies, I am guessing, she likes as well since she's awesome like that.

This is her list:

1) Chasing Amy
2) The 40 Year Old Virgin
3) There's Something About Mary
4) High Fidelity
5) Punch Drunk Love

Um, somehow it is never mentioned that the magic ingredient that makes those movies "boy-friendly" is the fact that they all have male main characters. This really is the magic ingredient. Let's be honest here. When it comes to anything besides sex (well, at least for straight men), men tend to prefer other men. They prefer hanging out with guys and they prefer watching movies about guys. Call them sexist or male chauvinists, if you will. It won't be the first time.

And, of course, these movies are told from the point of view of men, so, I guess maybe they relate to them more or whatever lame, lame, lameness. It's amazing what seeing a movie with a main character who you project to represent you can do for making you like that movie more than others. Yes, we human beings are superficial like that.

I guess, one might say that these so-called boy-friendly movies are funnier or less cheesy or whatever, but still. A tiny part of me feels like arguing against that, but I'm too damned tired at the moment so I won't. (Insomnia, if you must know and you must since I'm telling you.) I guess men are just funnier and less chessy than women....(um, no way)

Men don't hate romance as much as they hate female characters who are not merely sexual eye-candy accents to a story, but are the whole darn story. Okay, maybe not all men, but a lot of them.

And then there are the women who loudly and proudly prefer these male-targeted romances because those chicks are just oh, so cool. They are as cool as the girls who say they get along better with guys than other girls. They are just so darn cool like that.

By the way, I am by no means one of these "men are cooler than women" women, but I happen to love all five of those boy-friendly romances listed...in addition to "My Best Friend's Wedding" and "27 Dresses". (Really, I would not expect a guy to want to see a movie with the word "dresses" in the title anyway. And, by the way, the DVD box for that movie is pink...just saying.)

Oh, no, I like boy-friendly AND girl-friendly movies. What does this mean? Who am I?!?!?! Um, someone who likes movies, that's who.

Anyway, here's this thing:
